Yael Wassen
Yael Wassen is a visual artist based in Amsterdam. When she first began painting, she felt as though she had discovered a completely new means of communication: being able to create space for elusive feelings and thoughts without having to define them in a definitive way. Colors and shapes gave her a new sense of empowerment. Through the medium of art, sensitivity and vulnerability transformed from a potential burden into a strength, embodying a quality that she believes the world actually needs more of instead of less.
With a background in political philosophy, Yael’s art always carries specific meanings. Yet, the interpretation of her work is not entirely fixed. Words or poems may offer a sense of direction, but by predominantly using abstract and simple shapes, she aims to leave enough room for viewers to interpret her art in their own way.
Yael primarily creates paintings using acrylic paint, but she also experiments with other forms such as large fabrics combined with oil pastels, or bigger installations. Do you want to experience her work firsthand? You are very welcome to visit her studio in Amsterdam West.
